Bob, this is much more than a "technical" representation of the animal.
The precision of the details, the delicate tones and contrasts, everything work together to make this a great picture. The second one is a bit too flat in contrast for me.

the fact that there is some background details in the first image - absolutely adds to it in my opinion. Great image!!!
