Title: A bridge too far?

These are the bridges of the River Forth, near Edinburgh.

The famous rail bridge, in the distance, used to stand alone in its glory, until they built the road bridge in the '60s. The authorities were told then that four lanes (2 north and 2 south) would not be enough for future traffic. So now they are building a second road bridge, behind me as I took this shot. They have been warned that 4 lanes (2 north and 2 south) will not be enough for future traffic . . .

The road bridge looks like the golden gate.
The train bridge in the background is really unique.
It looks like you shot the bridges in IR?

Jakov - it does look like the Golden Gate but is slightly shorter and a lot taller. The image is just a b/w conversion in Photoshop - blues darkened, reds brightened, more contrast, then toned.

Classic image David. The RR bridge adds a significant element in the background.

One of the things I like about the shot is that there was a ferocious wind blowing, which has flattened the waves in the estuary, particularly where the water is close to camera.

The cantilever rail bridge (completed 1889) is one of Scotland's principal claims to fame.
