Title: A Marmot
Post by: Somnath Goswami on October 22, 2015, 11:39:22
At Ladakh , a marmot lets me come very close, so close that I use the Nikon 14-24 to include it's pristine habitat. Even at 4500 m altitude , influx of man is causing habitat destruction

Thanks Jakov. You can, if you gain height gradually and acclimatise well , we went upto 5400 meters approximately this time  :)

Somnath, cool and with that lens  :) .

One of my favourite places   Last time we took a car and driver from Srinagar to Leh but stopped for the night twice so by the time we reached Leh we were fine with altitude.   Twice we've planned our drive to Ladakh from Goa via Delhi and Manali .  We wanted to load up the big gear, get well off the tourist trail (homestays) and each time the situation was just too iffy.  We were told we would have trouble getting permits for many of the places we wanted to go  >:( .  Damn those Chinese and the others.  The rock slides on the passes can be great fun... lol

I really wanted to look for a Snow Leopard or two  ;)
Cheers,
Tom

Very very cool shot, Somanth. Beautifully captured in the middle of breathtakingly beautiful landscape.

Thanks guys.

Yes it's a shame that power-game has ensured non-issue of permits to foreigners into this pristine part of my country. On the other hand I sometimes feel that even we, Indians should not be allowed blanket entry to these places, we behave irresponsibly much too often and keep on hurting such environs. Hope things will change , for better.

Cheers
