Looks like Scathophagidae, what we call "dung-flies."

Thank you. Any closer identification? Subspecies?

You are asking for way too much, Frank!  Even with this very clear field stack of Scathophagida, I could not get a precise identification.  It is highly technical and there are 30 species in this genus.

It's a fly crawling on your dish.  Get it off your dish.

Thanks, Erik!  Field stacked, handheld with flash, perhaps 5 or 6 rapid fire frames, approx 3:1.  It doesn't always work but hit rate goes up with practice, as with anything else!  Here is another sample of the same species but looks a little different.  But, it has been a while and I'm definitely not in practice!  Come on, Frank, you have to up your game when a fly lands on your dish!   ;)

Thanks, John!  Scatophagia were my specialty for a while. ;D  There are lots around when people keep live stock, horses, etc.  They are a smallish fly and very interesting predators.  With those powerful legs they seem to jump to catch their prey, mainly other flies.  The dung fly moniker comes honestly as they lay their eggs in manure.
