Title: Flock of sheep
Post by: Anirban Halder on October 04, 2015, 12:47:04
Once in a while you get to see flock of sheep or goat in the middle of concrete jungle, such as this one. Shot yesterday from an apartment balcony on 10th floor. Critiques and comments are most welcome, as always.

Reminds me of flowing water with the moving parts soft in the center and the outliers sharply defined.

cheers

I like it, the movement makes it a fun shot.

Thanks Andreas. :)

Thanks Peter. :) They were moving pretty fast. Glad I didn't miss the guy in front leading the flock.

Good photo. I like that some sheep are standing still while most of them are moving.

I like the combination of fluidity and stability in the herd, plus the overall balance of the composition.

Much appreciated Anthony.

That is a very cool photo. Well done!
Thanks a lot, Andrea. I should use my 50mm (which was gathering dust for very long time) more often!

Well done. Usually, when one encounters a picture which is dynamic and changing, one doesn't have the presence of mind to consider many photographic options, (at least I don't). My hat is off to you for thinking about and then capturing the movement as a blur.

Thank you much, Gary. You are very kind. I'm merely learning from the great photograph of yours and everyone else's in NG.

Interesting how perspectives change.

Earlier in life I considered sheep to be peacefull animals, kind of living lawn mowers, calm decoration of landscapes and of course very tasty food and great deliverers of woool for my favorite jumpers.

Yet, today with all the knowledge I acquired about watershed management I see them as transformers and destroyers of landscapes, esp. keeping back forests were they are needed, causing erosion and flood and deterioation.

Back to the picture: Wonderful how you show the movement pattern. I was not aware that sheep in the middle of a herd might move much slower that the sheep around them. Very interesting. Thank you

Very well seen and shot, as others, I like how some of the sheeps are standing still.

Interesting, well balanced and very cool choice of shutter speed. I like the sensation of flow with the land and plants static and clear.

Thank you! :) Without the flow it would have been a dull photo.
