Title: The ghost tree
Post by: David Paterson on September 26, 2015, 18:36:17
- at least, that's how I think of it. I've photographed it many times, always trying to find something new in it.

And just in case you were wondering, yes, those are insects to the left of the tree. (But - for those who are coming here next spring - they are not around in May.)

Classic subject, excellent visualization.  Do show further permutations if/when possible.
I couldn't see the insects(in the main shot) on my laptop.

Very dynamic landscape reminding me of Salvador Dali.  Are they mosquitoes?  That should be a new kind of flare: insects flare!  :D

Thanks, Keith and Akira, for your comments.

To be compared to Dali is praise indeed, but there are some surreal touches in this (very real) landscape - the shapes and placement of the clouds and the other small twisted trees, and of course the Ghost Tree itself, with arms raised towards heaven! I think I once posted on the old forum an image of this scene, shot differently and called "The Dancers".

The insects are the dreaded Scottish midges which have been known to strip a man's flesh to the bone  ;D - or at least, drive him indoors.

I like the backlighting you chose for this image. Lovely.
