Title: Inspirational afternoon
Post by: John Geerts on September 22, 2015, 11:05:22
Some photo's were published on line in an article about a conference regarding 'Community Centers in self control'. The Community Center: "In de Boomtak" is independent since 2011 when City Hall announced closure and the neighborhood stood up against it. In December 2014 the building was bought from the City with the help of the community in raising money with shares issued by a special cooperation and founded for the occasion.

Personally I was not so satisfied with the photo-results with lots of light coming in, but everybody seemed to like it...

That is the future: powerless institutions get overpowered by
local stakeholders. A parent initiative raised 150.000 Euros to
renovate a building owned by the Catholic Church.

Why?

Because the church had no interest in the building but the
parents had.

They wanted to keep the Kindergarten that was in the building
and they felt it was necessary for the social balance in our quarter

Photography did not play any role in that fight.
