I caught these two in the petunias this morning and had the flash turned on. It was fairly good daylight, but the flash may have caught the irridescence better than without.

Oh my goodness!! You got a "twofer" - one hovering and one nectaring. That is amazing!!
Such fascinating little creatures. I always enjoy hummer captures. Thanks for posting.

Dave, it must have been great to see the two together. For me the background kills it. I am sure its not so easy to shoot these things, and getting them side-on or facing you might just not be possible, but definitely would make for a better composition. Better luck next time as I hope you can try again.

I've thought about photoshopping the image and making everything black and white and just the hummingbirds in color.
There were four of them here last night buzzing around.
