So, i do not have access to the beautiful sceneries many of you seem to have access to. I also don't have the imagination to turn ordinary, every-day things into something like art. Therefor, i'd thought to start something like an urban nature close-up thread. Please add your stuff if you please.
Let's start it off with a spidy i found against the wall close to our back door. The yellow stuff are regular bricks, gives a clue of the scale.
-
I like the too tight crop :) loosing the feet and letting the legs extended out of the frame is great
-
Great detail of a brick wall... :-) I gather you have some more in the same vein, I'll be happy seeing them as the urban "genre" is my favorite !!!

Thanks Erik. I do have the shot with all of its legs in the frame, but somehow it doesn't have the same impact (for me).

Thanks Jacques. I certainly have more in the same genre, but was also hoping others would chime in with their "urban nature" close-ups.

HCS: you found out about the alien invasion? Hm. You live dangerous now .... ROTFL

Like this one you mean... :-)

Would this one qualify?
It's an interesting concept, Hans. I never thought of placing flowers among concrete but it is a fact that it's all around us...
-
Great photo's !
I am not sure if the Sorbus will qualify as urban nature, but it's nearly blocking my back-door.
-
John, I like the glow.
-
The spidy - fully agree with Erik - the fact that you couldnt get all the legs in the frame reflects the fact that they are loooooong.
-
Elsa, thanks!
Great stuff guys, that's what i'm talking about.
For me, the difficult part of this theme is not only to get a good close-up, but also to still show that it's in an urban setting (for like with the bricks and mortar, for Jacques with the cracked tile (?)).
I'll try to post more stuff in this thread, but would invite anyone to also post their shots in this theme.
-
Thanks for the explanation, Hans. My previous contribution didn't qualify, I guess.
Hopefully this one does. At the step of my front-door. (I really love Urban nature) ;)
-
Nice one... :-)
-
John, that one definitely qualifies :)
-
John, that is excellent.
To be honest, there is of course no "official" definition. So, whether your previous one qualifies or not is up to the viewer. Regardless, i like it.
-
Is this close enough?
-
Thanks for the explanation, Hans. My previous contribution didn't qualify, I guess.
I feel the wonderful dream leafs qualify as close up, but: How to define the settung as "urban"? Food for thought ... maybe with a Zeiss Otus 24mm? HAHA
-
My wife cleaned the window in the kitchen and sourrounding parts. behind some leftover Easter decoration we found some pieces for the Bob-Friedman-collection *g*
-
Great one, Frank. Somehow, i missed that you added another one to the thread. I must have some dead flies around somewhere, i'll try to find the pictures.
First, another spidy in the garden. Not as close up as the topic starter, but with a WA this time (nikon 24 2.8 ais).
-
wow, that gaze (in the original photo)
-
Thanks Airy, would you happen to have some pics of nature close-ups in an urban setting that you could share. It'd be nice to see those.
-
Spiders & al. ? hardly. Nothing recent. And attempted rabbit shots defeat any AF system.

No worries, doesn't have to be spiders. Any kind of nature in an urban setting would do. But, if you have nothing, also OK of course.
Thanks for commenting.
-
Urban caterpillars. They stood in the way on a sidewalk. Fortunately I noticed them. Grabbed with Df + Zeiss 135/2 at f/5.6, closest range probably

I think Bob Friedman will be very grateful if you can post this lot to him. I suggested today he starts breeding his own subjects

Is this close enough?
I missed this one. Beautiful pastel colours, Akira.
-
So, even in Freiburg one can find some urban close-up nature.

Such fascinating fotos in this thread. I like this leaf foto, Chip.
Agree that urban nature needs to show the urban part. I have some soemwhere that I should dig out. I used to know where to find all my fotos right away, but now I have too many!!

Øivind - The construction zone and urban spring photos are terrific!
Keith - very cool shots with cool colors! :)
-
A number of Oenothera's (Evening Primrose) are growing in a field just around the corner in the middle of the city. Early 2015 more than 200 houses were teared down. The ground and area is left untouched since then and surrounded by a high gate. A bit of trespassing was necessary to make this 'close - up'.
-
Such fascinating fotos in this thread. ...
+1 on that!
Great shots all, but especially Øivind and John are hitting the urban part very well. That's what i had in mind. Now i'm curious for even more.

Local garden tomatoes, heirloom.
-
From earlier this year, taken in Ghent.
EDIT: Ooops, sorry - I was thinking "urban" and "nature" and forgot about the "close up"-part.
-
... close-up of the house at least..
-
Something just down the street. Some kind of grass, with recent reproductive structures. An articulating finder or rear LCD (preferably of the 'visible in sunlight' type) would have been helpful.

Exactly what i mean, Keith!
Good close-up of nature persevering where man tries to put it down with its structures. Great shot!
-
I like weed in all its possible appearances :)
great perspective pluton!
-
Hans, does this make any sense?
-
It's amazing what one can find on your own all alone... just by stepping outside to the back balcony...
-
Hans, does this make any sense?
It sure does, Jakov!
Great rendering in your post #44.
-
Hans, this is all your fault. Me on the balcony shooting urban nature close-ups.

An update of the Oenothera's (Evening Primrose), now with a background of 'autumn-trees' ;)
-
John John, John, John, you make some very nice pictures, you!

A city dweller...
-
Thanks, Jakov. That's a very nice one, Akira !
-
Akira, the lights in the background are magical!

John and Jakov, thanks!

Thanks Francis. The Nikkor 80/2.8 is very suitable for it.

This thread needs some TLC, from the Utrecht trip (can you guess what i've been up to ::) ).
-
City flowers
-
Chip, Spring has arrived for you. Great colour contrasts here and nice placement.
-
Yes Chip, really nice.
I would have tilted the camera a bit to the right though :)
-
Thank you, Hugh and Jakov - the flowers are out and so I am trying to get while the getting is good :)
-
Tenacity of urban nature is tremendous and so enjoyable to document.
Nothing beats a Hedge Bindweed in its quest for new territory.

The city is not visible here, so the chain-link fence will have to suffice for the 'urban' part.

Nice pics, all.

Well ... it's urban, it's nature, it's (kinda) close-up [but it is in a garden]

Beautiful examples
I am not sure what this is, but I suspect the Phytolacca octandra ?
-
Nice, but I can't compete with species names... I'm a real urban guy ! :P
Here is some clover (I guess ?)

-
Nice Clover Jacques. I am not that good with names too, search and wiki help a lot ;)
Thanks Fons. That makes sense. Pokeweeds in English I believe. They were planted here a lot as a color raw material (red) for usage in the wool industry.
Another urban-example ;)
-
Here is some clover (I guess ?)
Jacques, I would say Oxalis (petite-oseille in french) ;)
-
Jacques, I would say Oxalis (petite-oseille in french) ;)
I still think it's "trèfle" in french. The petite-oseille has different leaves ;D

From a vegetalized wall, quai Branly, Paris. Fresh from today's crop. Some kind of mahonia in the foreground.

Outside the fence...

I think Snails belong to the urban nature?
Posted also in the 366 days topic.

John, snails certainly belong.
And, wow, #94 "Breaking the fence", wow.

I still think it's "trèfle" in french. The petite-oseille has different leaves ;D
Ajuga reptans 'Rubra' is the proper Latin name have no idea what it may be in French.

Thanks Hans.

Breaking the fence...
Superb shot John. Sharp like razors!
Fons - love the colors in your last shot. That's quite shallow DOF. Nice contrast as well.
-
Thanks Anirban (sorry for the late reply)
Another example of some Urban Nature or is it agriculture?
-
Another example of some Urban Nature or is it agriculture?
Should still qualify as urban nature.
Great composition!
-
Thanks, Hans !
-
Lovely shot John. I really like how extremely the background contrasts with what you would expect to see when focusing on the main subject. These grains really took a wrong turn :)
-
Thanks Buddy. Shot it at @17 to get the surroundings.
Only 60 years ago it were all agricultural fields, the grain seeds must have survived somehow ;) And close nearby there was a windmill.

It's the time of year when the Vine growing on the house seeks new territory - including my balcony.
