Because mere mortals can't post in the the original post, http://nikongear.net/revival/index.php?topic=1434.0;topicseen.
Congratulations Bjørn and the die hard team !
If it hadn't been for you, i would have been digi-homeless today.
Thanks for reviving the community !
-
Bjørn and me did 20% of the postings 10% each. Wow.
-
All we (the admin team) did was to relight the candle, the rest is all done by the community :)
We are still baffled how quickly most of the old community came back and how many new members in just 3 months came aboard to enrich our community with new blood.
So from the bottom of my heart; thank you all for making NikonGear great again!!!!
-
great to see all here - we are veeeeery happy
Congrats on the 3 month anniversary - feels like we have been together forever ;)
-
My thanks go to all the admins and founders who got this going again.
And to Elsa for letting me know about it.

As a new and Nikonless member ... what happened to the NikonGear of ol'?
-
don't open that can or worms...
All that matters is that the great spirit once existing reigns again.

As a new and Nikonless member ... what happened to the NikonGear of ol'?
For my part it ended when I was accused of all sorts of bad behavior online not being allowed to answer or speak freely. A lot of posts where often deleted and history rewritten...

We don't like talking about it publicly because that was part of the divorce agreement but lets say the original founder went a little overboard in an attempt to move the forum in a completely different direction, during this process he openly parted with some of his admins (like Andrea), partner (Bjørn) and early members (like Erik) while chasing away most of the community, in the meantime he kept asking for money to fund the changes almost nobody wanted.
But as evolution usually goes; a strong community overcomes any challenge, adapts and moves on....
-
Had to imagine an administrator/founder/photographer knowingly offend so many talented photogs and what I can tell, good-hearted, people.

Hmmm... surprising Frank. Had you asked me to guess, I would have said 75% by you... ;D
Congrats!

Dallas is a nice chap but unlike me he does not seem to know that he has flaws* and that is not good in a position with control. He does work against his own interests. Most of the time. It is tragic.
* flaws are the glue to the fabric I am made of

Rather than looking back, I'm happy to enjoy what the team here have created and look forward to what's yet to come.
And it's great seeing new people, who are already adding to the richness and diversity of images and knowledge now available.
So if you know other fellow enthusiasts who might be interested in coming aboard, spread the word!
-
Yes Colin pleasure every day!

3 months is also the age of our new rabbit at home. His name is Suntory. Nikongear would have sounded strange, right ?
BTW Suntory is a reference to "Lost in translation". His predecessor, the late Wasabi, had a pretty long (8 1/2 years) life in rabbit's paradise (our closed garden, 30m²).
Long live Nikongear, long live Suntory. BTW rabbits are challenging subjects, better suited to video than stills.

Succinctly and fairly said.
I have not officially left but I find it hard enough to follow one community that I don't go often to the "other side" even though there are still people there whom I like and whom I have not seen here.
The community here gives me all I need in terms of photography and I like the forum smallish, simple and non-commercial.

And thats how we intend to keep it, a small but knowledgable forum run by the community for the community.

Leave the past in the past and don't kick a dog that is down. The branch you have chopped off, can never grow a green leaf again.
Life is short - simply enjoy NG and especially treasure the friendships you have formed. Which I know is plentiful and special.

+1. I intend to live the rest of my life in the future, not the past.

Do you have a choice?
-
English humour, using the obvious to make a point which is quite different from the obvious.
-
I intend to live it in the present!
-
Life is a present.

Do you have a choice?
Future is the only way forward!
-
There is always tomorrow. Unfortunately, that's the problem: It's always there, in the future!

Only my comments are deleted...

Have you shared any images or footage of these two with us yet?
Maybe better started in a separate thread, but I'm keen to see them.
Any animal with the name of Wasabi conjures up a mental image that's probably quite different from reality!

Great, I fully support all you and the team have achieved in the first 3 months JA
-
Congrats and thanks! Has it really only been 3 months?! Feels like it's been much longer.
Ps. I seem to remember talk earlier about changing it so only members are able to see the images posted but that doesn't seem to have been implemented? Or is it simply my memory that fails, as usual?
-
Your memory might be better than you credit it for, Jørgen...
What you refer to was the initial plan, but we now let this stew for a while to see the progress ahead. We were concerned and worried about site load, but apparently SMF is quite efficient plus we have already upgraded our hosting scheme to supply more resources. Thus at present the site runs smoothly enough and no extra measures need to be taken.
Non-registered visitors "see" the site as read-only and cannot partake in any activity here.

I do think tho that the content created by all - is worth registering for. Since it appears I am going to be a member for a very long time ;D ;D

Thanks for the quick reply Bjørn, it seems my memory still functions sometimes, despite what my wife tells me :P
