Interesting article on The Boston Globe saying that MIT is working on a technology that prevents images from being over exposed:

I tried to patent this many years ago and found Kodak was already assigned.
The base idea is either an overflow counter.
Altenative is a rate counter instead of a fixed bucket.
Either way we get a number that can not max out.
