Title: Scheveningen, bungee, fireworks
Post by: Jakov Minić on August 22, 2015, 00:50:36
Tonight I went to the beach of Scheveningen in The Hague.
I showed up early and planned to situate myself in a way that I would capture the fireworks above the peer.
Whilst waiting, I didn't expect to see enthusiasts bunjee jumping into the sunset:)

Df + 105/2.5

Here are some of the results  ;D

Wonderful lighting moods, like some precious stones. Thank you!

Crane, harbor, bungee jump, firewoks...very intriguing combinations.  The sunset is beautiful, and the bungee jumpers give a surreal feel to it.

If there is some headroom left in the raw files, you may want to lower the exposure of the fireworks to recover some colors...

Thanks for sharing!

Stunning photo's, Jakov.  That natural 'firework' of the sunset really creates the mood for the 'rest.  ;)

Dude, these are all wonderful. Every now and then I am struck by this epiphany of why I love photography ... the camera's ability to stop time and we can enjoy a moment at our leisure. Seeing these images made me feel as if I was there ... the last image is so good ... as if you fabricated all the fireworks, painting the sky at your direction.

Thank you Frank, Akira, John, Sten, Elsa and Gary for your lovely comments, really!!!

I am extremely glad you like them! You've left me speechless :)

Akira, I know what you mean. I was so obsessed with the recovering of the crane and the peer that I didn't worry that much about the fireworks...

Here is another one where I got a bit more color out of the fireworks. The fireworks were extremely powerful, this one was exposed for only 2 seconds.

To my eye, the bungy tower is of secondary importance and I would have left it dark as a framing element and to lessen it's distraction to the fireworks and firework reflections in the water.

Thank you Akira and Gary.
I am humbly posting them in chronological order :)
The darker skies in the last ones probably help...

A fantastic series, Jakov!

I was in the car during the spectacular sunset (a red, big sun something we do not see often) and thought about the fireworks. I am glad you posted these photos. If I was there. Thanks for sharing.

Andrew, I'll take it!
Although I think that it's a bit of an exaggeration...

Thanks!

The first one works really well and I quite fancy the orange/red fireworks shot you posted in #9. The fireworks in the first set don't really work for me.

Looking again, I think the reason I don't like them is the "fuzziness" of the background.

Do you man the clouds in the first images, or the fireworks that are making the images fuzzy?

I'm not quite sure what it is that makes it fuzzy, it's bothers me most in #2

Jakov, the image of reply 9 is incredible, amazing work!. Are these images composed of several exposures?

I somehow missed this thread, and it's wonderful images

What is the celebration about?

Dear Ramon, they are all single images.

I was thinking of making a multiple exposure but the fireworks were so strong that I didn't do it in the end fearing that they would turn out to messy. I started taking photos @ f/5.6; ISO 100; 4 seconds, but as the shooting went on I continuously reduced the shutter speed that ended up in the end at 1.3 seconds. The reason why I reduced the shutter speed and not closed the lens was I simply wanted to get as many images as possible, and at 1.3 seconds I even turned of the Long Exposure NR to save more time :)

Thanks, Jakov

Dear Armando,

To tell you truth I haven't got a clue.
Every year for two weekends there are firework displays on the beach in The Hague.
The fireworks are presented to the masses by different countries. I had the pleasure to enjoy the fireworks from Italy and The Netherlands. (China, Spain and another four countries have/had their own sets).

Thanks, Jakov
