Somewhat in his style, at least. I couldn't resist last night's sunset, shot from just outside our house. The surprising thing is that this view looks almost due east - the actual sunset was happening behind me.

I suppose portrait orientation: how many photos?

David - I always check the "backside" of a sunset or sunrise - many worth while pictures to be found that way

Nice one Dave, I really like these sky pictures and I'm always trying to get that special one! So far unsuccessfully. :-[

Marco - this is the lazy man's pano, I'm afraid - it's just a snapshot - a single frame, cropped. But it still makes a very nice 60cm print.

Dave, I was surprised to see the title when clicking "Show unread posts since last visit".
Funny that my "sunset" shots are mostly the eastern skies. I would say that this image of the same concept as that of many of my panos proves that I'm very much inspired by you. :)

You are kind to say so, but I you have your own vision and style and don't need any inspiration from me. But having said that, one of the benefits of a high-quality membership such as NG has, is that we can all feed off each other and take inspiration from each other.

Dave, obviously there's no need to apologize. Sorry for my over-reaction. And you are right: any good images are not just (or necessarily) beautiful or dramatic, but they make the viewer think and eventually inspire. In this sense, your sky is definitely yours.

Nice sky!, Bjørn did remind me to always look opposite the sunset to see if something is going on... and generally I find this a good idea in many cases, not only for sunsets!
This one is off balance for me, not that the horizon is slanted not a problem, but the 'heavy set' tree on the right high up, it seems to be in unbalance with the skinny see through tree on the left that is low...

Your eye is working well today, Erik!
The horizon is mostly trees, not a true horizon, and those on the right are nearer and taller so I don't want to play around with that. But the two big framing trees - of course I deliberately set the shot up like that and later it's sometimes hard to think flexibly. There is a lot to be said for losing the tree on the right, and when you do, the sloping "horizon" restores the balance of the shot. Mange tak!
