I've been getting this error whilst trying to post.
Consistently for half an hour or so

Clear your browser cache and try again.
I'll do a maintenance run on the db. There was a short series of db issues pertaining to a couple of other members as well.

You didn't use some special characters, like an Emoij?
The error log message complains about a character not in the multi-lingual base set.
-
No special characters.
Though it did let me post the words "test message", it wouldn't let me post what I wanted to write...

Strange bug that hit you and another member this afternoon?? Everything else went smoothly, or at least, the logs don't show error messages other than the two concerning you and another member.
Technically, the error is trigged when a 4-byte string is sent into the db, which only handles 2 or 3 byte entries.

I am curious about why this happened: I couldn't get NikonGear to open today at all.
Then I added the ".php" suffix and the site opened immediately
Now I can get in with just my regular sign-in without the need for the .php suffix.
I use the Safari browser and this has happened since the last Update of Mac OS 15.7.3.
Is this just an anomaly or should I add the suffix in the future?
-
The .php is default, so the issue this time can be laid at the browser's door. Adding the suffix shouldn't be required. In fact, you should be fine by dropping /index.php all together.
We have the occasional data base errors, but I run a maintenance app when this happens and I get the admin error message.

I guess it was just a "fault in the Matrix" then because today I can get in without adding any suffix at all — as I normally do!
Or perhaps Apple fixed something?

I haven't used Apple products for ages, but still get weirdness on NG using Windiws & Android from time to time. Rarely enough to not be concerned about it :)
