Title: Strong magenta color cast printing from NXStudio
Post by: Bruno Schroder on October 07, 2025, 12:34:11
Printing from NXStudio to my revived Epson R3000 produces a strong magenta color cast. I've tried all possible parameters I could think of, I may have missed some combinations though, but to no avail. I don't even have to print, the print preview shows it very clearly, but only from NXStudio. Printing the same file from the Windows Photo app is correct.

Last time I did prints on the R3000 was with ViewNX on a Windows7 laptop and it went fine. My actual config is NX Studio 1.7.1 on Windows11 so many things have changed software wise.

Any advice to solve this?

I'm printing for an exhibition of my Migrants: Traces photos in February. I still have some time ...

Mismatched colour profiles?

Strong magenta cast means there is too little green.

Take a photo of a Colorchecker, process as you would do otherwise, and print it.

I thought like you and did that but the file is as it should be. I would guess a specific interaction between NX and the Epson printing app is the cause, as it does not happen when printed from another app. I exported it as a jpg. Printed from NX Studio, the nef and jpg have the same magenta cast. Printed from Photo, the jpg has no such cast. It is also not file dependent. I, unsuccessfully, tried over 20 files, with the same result, before thinking about printing from another app …

The color looks correct when viewing the original file in NX, right?  But then exported file is magenta-ized?  Check what color profile that NX is exporting using.  To JPEG or TIFF.  If you generate a good JPEG from NX --does that JPEG/TIFF look correct on the computer's default JPEG browser?

Yes, both nef files and exported jpgs look correct in NX and jpg browser. They are magenta-ized only in the Epson previewer and on the print when initiated from NX.

Then, the easier approach is to drop NX Studio in the processing chain :)

Color Contrast
Sorry, wrong, should be "october"

Sure, but the itch of the unidentified mistake, mine or NX, will eternally linger :)

All is well that ends well. Just forget about the bad experience.

I would revisit the issue after NX and/or the computer OS has had an update.
