While I have no personal interest in acquiring the just released Nikkor Z 24-70mm f/2.8 S II, it is always nice to see what new technology can bring. Weight now almost down to the level of the 24-120mm S, length grew by about 25mm over the old version, so long and slender, but then with internal zoom and focusing so it does not extend when zoomed as the old one. Some might like the switch selectable option of clickable control ring for aperture use.

Ricci has a video on the new lens: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MqlFwCGR2qc
Attached a screen shot from the video with a comparison.

I understand this is highly beneficial for video shooters but I think quite a lot of people who do not shoot video on gimbals might actually prefer the more compact-in-the-bag first version. I think the resulting new lens is surprisingly lightweight, especially considering it has the more complicated focus motor solution.

Interesting new design, I like the internal zoom and focus features, but the relative long length is noticeable I agree.

To me, the simpler optical design of the version 2 is something adorable. It is a 10G14E design, as opposed to 15G17E of the first version and 15G19E of the version 2 of Sigma equivalent.
