Title: Nikon D200 sensor vs Pentax K10D sensor & implementation differences
Post by: kasperbergholt on November 27, 2024, 17:26:43
Hello clever people,

I got interested in photography after buying a Nikon D3 about half a year ago. I got aPentax K10D (https://bergholt.net/10d) last month to see what all the fuzz about CCD sensors was about.

At that time, I didn't know that the Nikon D200 was CCD-based too.

One has just landed, and the battery is getting charged.

Does anyone know if it's the same sensor that's used in both cameras? And what differences there might be to their implementation?

Thanks in advance,

Kasper

The sensor used in the Nikon D200 is from Sony.  It's the CCD Sensor Sony ICX-483-AQA

The Pentax K10D uses the Sony ICX-493-AQA which is a small upgrade and also used in the Nikon D80.   ( the Sony ICX493AQA sensor, which is a two-channel version of the four-channel Sony ICX483AQA used in the D200. The difference is one has more pins so it can read out data quickly enough for the D200's 5FPS, otherwise it's the same data and image quality.)

I've owned 4 copies of the Pentax K10D and 6 copies of the Nikon D200.   The Pentax has IBIS, but other than that, I prefer everything about the D200 over the K10D.  Both produce excellent images, and I find that I prefer their colors over any modern cameras (including Z6 and Z7).

Because the Pentax was uncomfortable and no fun to shoot, I sold all of them, but I have kept my many D200 bodies.

Thank you for the reply - and sorry for the highly delayed response, I'm having some issues with the notifications system (and forgot to check the thread manually).

It was info exactly like this I was after :)

Were the 6 copies for collection or did you wear the cameras out gradually?

The D200 I got from MPB in Germany turned out defective, which was a shame. I've had some other matters to attend to, so ended up getting a refund.

Next camera will be a Nikon D4 instead. And the, perhaps, the D200 somewhere in the future. I've kept the K10D & an *istD S.

I've got a new favorite CCD sensor DSLR body - the Sony A350.   It has a huge 14.2mp CCD sensor!  Have any of you CCD fans tried it?

I haven't, but it definitely looks interesting!

I'd also like to experiment with the Pentax 645D at 40 mega-pixels sometime in the future - when prices have gotten at bit lower.
