I had two Ai version, was looking for a good condition 105/2.5 for collection
now had a one in a fair price

checked it is original condition, no repair and maintenance
the coating is identical to early Ai version

Early mid '70s. I believe I switched from the "P" version of the "Gauss" model to the P.C (K) with better coating around '74. My Nikon F and with it the 105/2.5 'sonnar' were stolen at that time and I used the insurance to buy new gear: F2 of course, and the K model of thr 105. I still have a "P" version of the 105. Later, I got another 'sonnar', 105/2.5 AI and AiS. The AI is my favourite amongst them.

I heard the 105/2.5 Xentor can cover GFX 4433 frame, is this ture?

I have a lovely, mint P-C that appears to be Nikon converted to AI. Impressive build and just a beautiful lens. Being a lens-hound, I also have an AI and an AI-S but not the Sonnar design model. I tend to use the AI-S the most for no other reason than to preserve the P-C's minty look. I don't test lenses but for my uses all these lenses are optically excellent.

one year ago, I bought my first 105/2.5 Ai version by an unexpected chance at 50USD/370RMB, with a lot of mildew inside, and the lense looks used quite often. the seller told me it was belong to a HongKong photographer.he work with some stars.
in that time , I am not aware of this famous story and lengendary lense.
the price was cheap, and fortunately this lense is easy to maintenance, I fixed the mildew problem, it performs very well.
after playing some times of this lense, I do love it, the rendering and the sharp full-open. (except the CA and weight)
from a collection perspective, the first one is not such good, then I found a chance bought the 2nd Ai version in double price, but the class is perfect, and no maintenance in origin condition. focus smoothly. perfect.
last time I got a NIKKOR PC Auto 24/2.8, I feel the material, built quality and mechnics are quite good (even lack of camera to use it), then I think of buy a mint auto nikkor-PC 105 for collection.
so now still about doubt price, I have one.

I have the old AI version of this lens, and it’s a beautiful specimen with the rubber grip. I’ve seen videos and comparisons of the AI to the AIS and the AI aperture blades are more rounded than the AIS version which are straight. The only time you see this is when you have strong specular highlights in the background other than that is negligible. The AIS version also has a built in hood, which is handy, as the clip on hood sometimes gets knocked off, going through brush and tree branches in the wild. as was mentioned, all the versions of this winds are excellent so they’re always a good investment. Although I must admit when I’m hiking, I tend to take my 75 to 150 zoom which focusses closer and is only one stop slower and very sharp.Regards Gerry

talking about the hood for 105/2.5
the origin HS-4 is classic, and not cheap on the 2nd hand market(more than 10 USD), and can put on the lense reversed.
but this reversed capping installation hurts the lense focus ring, made the scratches on ring side
have to say nikon once put so much energy to design and produce this good quality lense hood, but it is not fit to reverse capping this lense, now it is a good collection.

HS-4 can easily be morphed into an HN-8 clone. Takes just a few drops of epoxy glue judiciously placed. I've done that with my HS-4 units as I got tired of them falling off all the time.
