I just updated my firmware for the Z8 to 2.00 and pixel-shift is now there i 4. 8. 16, and 32 versions.
Glory Be!
This opens up a whole new world for me.
Is this true for the Z9?

There is speculation of forums and rumors. It makes sense for the Z9 to have it too but I don't think anyone knows for sure as today.

Yes, it won't work if Z8 is in VIDEO mode, so note.
NX Studio is fairly easy to use to process the pixel-shift results, but a little opaque perhaps.
Now the question I have for readers is: What do we do with these huge files other than print them. They are really big!

Michael, would you care to comment on the benefits and the drawbacks you've encountered in your experiments with using Pixel-Shift?
-
You mention it becomes Opague ,are there any other anomalies ,does pixel shift affect sharpness ?
-
Yeah there is a big tadoo over on Backcountry Gallery Forums also.

LLoyd Chambers did a detailed examination of pixel-shift on the ZF and is about to do one on the Z8.

Here is an example of four-image pixel shift, of course reduced in size to fit here. The first image is a single image, the second a pixel-shift merged image.
It is clear something is to be gained from the pixel-sifted image.

Next to pixel shift shooting, there is another very useful new feature in this 2.0 firmware that afaik is not yet on Z9: cycle AF-area mode. Assign this to a function button to quickly cycle through selected AF- area modes.

cycle AF mode would also be great on the Zf - pls Nikon to note
