I am contemplating my fairly light kit for a one week trip to Burgundy and Paris. Z6 is the body, serves me well. Base case is 24-70/f4 and probably the 50 1.8 or 35 1.8. I have been interested in the 40/2 and have one on order (coming next couple of days). If I like it, I will use that as my prime.
Or maybe I will bring both the 40 and 50 to trial them against each other!
Any advice welcome on lenses, or my first trip into French wine country!

If the aim is a light kit, then the 40 will win by a long mile! The 50 is a beast in comparison. You will need to provide your own hood though.

I don´t know about the 40mm but I used the exact same kit you propose here: Z6, 24-70 f4s and 50mm 1.8s and I was a very happy light traveling man. Since then, I have purchased a double battery charger powered by usb (https://www.amazon.es/gp/product/B07M8CZP8R/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1) very light, cheap and convenient.

Or maybe I go 50 1.8 plus the 28 2.8 and not the 40!

Think about the last 70-300, 4.5-5.6 AFS-P, thru FTZ, instead of 40-50. Really sharp one! This one isn't much bigger, or heavier, but will dramatically wider your abilities!. $ 400-450 on E-Bay. LZ

I agree. This lens plus the 24-70 f/4.0 Z lens would make a powerful two lens combination.
The faster primes mentioned would be good if low light photography is a goal, but the Z6 has a pretty good low light capability already.
Think about the last 70-300, 4.5-5.6 AFS-P, thru FTZ, instead of 40-50. Really sharp one! This one isn't much bigger, or heavier, but will dramatically wider your abilities!. $ 400-450 on E-Bay. LZ

Interesting, that is why i posted here, to get different opinions. I have the Nikon AF-S 70-300mm VR (but not the AF-P). I wouldn't consider that plust an FTZ to be a nimble travel kit. I havn't used that lens (again, AF-S, not AF-P) in a while... don't think I have even tried it on my z6!
I will think about whether I need some length though, maybe not a bad idea!

For me 24mm would not wide enough for cities.
My small travel kit would be 14-30/4 35/1.8 and 24-200 or 70-300E if I expect to need longer FL.

Thanks Chris... i don't have a 14-30, so my widest option would be a 20mm and FTZ, which i have used on my Z but was looking to avoid bringing the FTZ.
I will only be in Paris for 1.5 -2 days, mostly in Burgundy, but certainly a lot of landscape opportunities!

WRT the 70-300 AFP: Up until recently I had the not-so-nice 55-300DX lens, and my wife the 70-300 AFS-VR, which was vastly superior (DX cameras for both). After reaching maximum frustration with the 55-300's execrable AF performance, I sprung for the new 70-300AFP in the FX version (I like switches). It was not surprise that it was vastly better, but it was "more better" than I'd expected. So then I raced it against the older VR lens, which is reasonably sharp and fast focusing, and it beat it hands down. The AFP is measurably sharper, especially at the long end, and on average it focuses about twice as fast.
You may not need that and the FTZ for the planned trip, but if you're looking for a bargain tele zoom, it's worth thinking about.
