Post by: syun on March 03, 2022, 05:39:57

i found this old nikon lens in my father`s room yesterday

W-NIKKOR C 3.5cm f1.8

Certainly is, as there is no 10X TC for these lenses :)

Such misengraved lenses apparently are highly valuable for collectors. Apart from that, the 3.5cm f/1.8 is an excellent performer even by today's standards. It fits a mirrorless camera perfectly.

look here (from Roland Vink's links):

Looks like you found a little gold mine...

Quote:

This is one of the rarest of all Nikon lenses  with a production of only about 100 lenses.

In other words, it is rarer than than Nikon stereo lens, almost twice as rare as a Nikon S3M,  seven times rarer than a Nikon One, fifteen times rarer than a Nikon rangefinder motordrive,

thirty times rarer than a 50/1.1, fifty times rarer than a Black Nikon Rangefinder!

It is only 2 numbers short of the highest documented serial for this batch (highest: 351868)
Add to it the fact that it's a misengraved lens, it's going to be even more valuable!

Hmm...this might be rarer than the "Nocf" Nikkor 58/1.2?!

I don't think the 58/1.2 Noct is rare. Many has been made. But it has some "hype".
When it was discontinued they were sold out at about 1500 Euros where I live. I grabbed one. Should probably have grabbed a couple......

Interesting "fathers room". What else in that room?

Regarding mis-engraving I have a Nikkor-Q 135mm bellows lens where the Q looks like an O. I tried to convince the shop that is was a Nikkor-Q and not a Nikkor-O and I should have it for less money because it had only half the lens elements than advertised. But no success with that so I grabbed it anyway. It is mint so it was ok.

I didn't say "Noct", but "Nocf".   ;)

Yes that is one. Instead of being engraved "Noct" it is mis-spelled "Nocf"

The lenses affected fall in the range of at least 192811 - 192981.

A 5cm 1.1?    Nikkor-N?

What about lining them up with front cap off so we can have a look at all the nice vintage Nikkors?
Then I would not just put them back into the box but take care that the lenses does not scratch each other......?

In addition to what has already been spotted, possibly the following:

-a RF 85mm/2 near the bottom  R of the picture
-a 60 mm AF micro-Nikkor near the top R
-a 35 mm/2.8 at top R (scalloped focussing ring, chrome front ring)
-a Nikkor 5cm/1.4 near bottom L
-two Pentax Takumar lenses, two Canon lenses, and a Leica lens (judging from the lenscaps)
-another two Nikkors, possibly 28mm and 50mm
-maybe another 2 Nikon RF lenses (one on R, one in center)
-various extension tubes
-a microphone
-more stuff

Yes, a gold mine...

You should take the pictures from a really vertical position, most of the relevant data cannot be read or are hidden by adjacent lenses

-a 60 mm AF micro-Nikkor near the top R (CONFIRMED)
-a 35 mm/2.8 Nikkor-S at top R (scalloped focussing ring, chrome front ring) (CONFIRMED)
-a Nikkor 5cm/1.4 near bottom L (CONFIRMED)
-(Konica?) Hexar 50 mm /3.5 ser 2 (CONFIRMED)
-RF Nikkor-S.C 5cm/1.4 sn 346124 (CONFIRMED)

and naturally the 5cm/1.1, and the 35mm/1.8 misengraved lens

Wow!
There's a Zeiss Distagon 35/1.4 which can easily cost 1000€
Two Leitz optics (Summicron, Summarit)
Three Canons f:1.2, and two f:1.4, and one f:2
9 Nikons, ranging from the spectacular Nikkor-N 5cm/1.1, the 35 cm (mis-engraved)/1.8, and more RF lenses, to the kit lens Nikkor-H 50mm/2. The latter is the lens with lowest value (maybe 100-120€)
and then Pentax, Konica, Topcon, ...
...
23 lenses in all, most lenses f:1.4 or better, easily reaching 10000€ value

A nitpick is that the Nikkor-N 5cm f/1.1 is the early type with internal bayonet. Nikon had to abandon this solution because the heavy lens caused too much strain on the internal focusing mechanism, which originally only dealt with the rather feather-light 5cm f/1.4 and f/2 Nikkors. Thus I don't expect this particular sample to fetch astronomical price, however with today's crazy collectors one can never take anything for granted (spoiler alert: I already have a nice sample of the last version with external bayonet).

The star in the collection is without doubt the very rare black-aperture ring version of the 3,5/1.8, which in addition is misengraved. A collector's dream coming true, I presume.

Maybe the 50/1.1 with todays adapters can be quite useful on a Z-body?
Title: Re: Nikon 35cm f1.8 ?
Post by: Birna Rørslett on March 04, 2022, 21:53:47
The version with external mount, definitively. The first version, however, lacks its own helicoid for focusing, You *can* get makeshift adapters (cheap and unreliable) or bespoke (high price) models to allow focusing, though.

I have used my 5 cm f/1.1 mainly on the Z5 (for IR) or on the Z fc (visual spectrum). The Nikkor-N is very temperamental and thus quite fun to use.

I have an adapter as shown which I think is made from Kiev-camera mounts and then adapted to L39.
It is made for lenses like Jupiter-8 with (Contax/Kiev/Nikon RF mount) like the old 50/1.1.
Using a L39 to Z adapter it should be possible to mount the Nikkor and focus. If care is taken it may be ok despite the weight of the Nikkor-N.

I have samples of that kind ('makeshift' adapter). It works with the 5cm f/1.4 and f/2 Nikkor RF lenses. Wouldn't use it for anything heavy.
