Approx USD14,000.00
-
2,950 g
-
Heavy price tag but it has the builtin TC while being the same weight as the competition, this might bring a lot of pro photographers back to Nikon :)
-
with 14000 Dollars equalling 12000 EURO (Euro price might be different than just converting the USD value) it is in the similar price range as the old 400/2,8 FL without TC
With 2900 g it is nearly 1 kg lighter than the F-mount lens (3800g). It will be the first Nikon lens i know of combining FL and Super-ED with ED glass (plus the new SR glass). WIll be interesting to which extents improvements will be visible and how useful the other new features (new AF-Motors) will be. Interesting lens, that will be important for the overall Attractiveness of the Z9 and the Z-system at all.
-
Update: My dealer is listing this lens at a price of 15000 (14999),- EURO, so Nikon is following its tradition to make advanced versions more expensive. It is still cheaper than a 800/5,6 though.

Short video from Africa about the lens in the field:

Interesting that the TC switch can be flipped while panning a shot, great ergonomic design by Nikon!!
-
The combo with Z9 would be a killer rig during the Olympic Games in Beijing!
I wonder if the 800/6.3 would follow soon?
(Nikon warns that people using pacemakers should refrain from using this lens because the magnet used in the "Silky Swift VCM" may affect them.)
-
Ricci shared a comparison shot with what seems to be the 600/4, 400/2.8S, 180-400/4 and 120-300/2.8.
His inside view should be up in a few days when he returns from Iceland.

Thats bad news. There should be a warning imprint on the lens!
-
I suspect the risk is remote, otherwise Nikon would not bringing the lens with such technology to the market.
Note I am not advising anyone to take the risk of going against Nikon's warning.

People with heart issues might have troubles already with the stiff price tag of the new lens :)
-
Indeed.
Its list price in Australia is $A22,999.00 (including 10% Goods & Services Tax) or $A20,908 pre GST.

They should join NG, realize the asking prices of 6mm/f2.8 fisheye or 2000mm/f11 reflex to be well vaccinated. 8)

bottom TC 400 f2.8S

Thanks Woody, NR posted the schema with the TC twice so was looking for the differences which weren’t there :o
I am a little surprised by the complexity of the TC btw which has 7 elements.
-
Thanks for posting the lens scheme and MTF (i got a bit confused as well at first hand)
The new 400/2,8 will be longer than the F-mount version (which is shorter than the 180-400) BTW
Good news regarding price: The 800/5,6 is even more expensive, and the upcoming Z-mount 600/4 probably will be too ^^
-
Sorry, i mixed up the order uploading the images above. Compared to the TC14-Z, the internal TC14 looks superficially similar, i.e. almost reversed but indeed more complex

Looks like a great lens. It is a bit outside my price range though.
