Birds are mainly my thing
« on: June 13, 2015, 16:24:22 »
As some may know me from other forums, birds and animals are my main passion, even though I do like landscapes and travel photography. Some of my more recent birds:

#1 New Holland Honeyeater - native Australian bird

D810 + 400 f2.8E FL VR + 2x TCIII, f7.1, 1/1600sec, ISO320 handheld.

#2 Sacred Kingfisher - Australia, New Zealand and Western Pacific

D810 + 400 f2.8E FL VR, f6.3, 1/50sec, ISO800 handheld

#3 Pied Oystercatcher - Australian, but closely related to other pied oystercatchers.

D810 + 400 f2.8E FL VR + 2x TCIII, f8, 1/1600sec, ISO635 handheld.

#4 White Rumped Sandpiper - the rarest bird in Australia, there is only one, simply because it was supposed to fly from Alaska to South America for their summer but got caught up in the wrong migratory flight path bird group and flew to Australia instead.

D810 + 500 f4 VR, f11, 1/500sec, ISO178 handheld.

#5 Spotted Pardalote - tiny little bird native to Australia, about 2.5 incehs long. One of my favourite little birds as he is so beautiful

D810 + 500 f4 VR + 1.4x TCIII, f5.6, 1/1600sec, ISO2016, monopod

#6 Tiger

D800 + 300 f2.8 VRII, f4, 1/320sec, ISO720 handheld

#7 Mandrill

D800E + 300 f2.8 VRII, f5, 1/640sec, ISO1400 handheld.

#8 Orangutan - just for fun from a few years ago - "Oh my God, what have I done?"

D700 + 70-200 f2.8 VRII, f7.1, 1/200sec, ISO1100

#9 Double Barred Finch - native Australian bird

D810 + 400 f2.8E FL VR + 2x TCIII, f8, 1/800sec, ISO898 handheld.

#10 Forest Kingfisher - Australia, New Guinea and Indonesia.

D800E + 300 f2.8 VRII, f4, 1/320sec, ISO2200 handheld.

That White Rumped Sandpiper really looks confused as to his wherabouts.

Otherwise, nice birds and animals well presented. Your 400 apparently gets a work-out to keep it in shape :D  !!

Thank you for your kind comments, Bjorn!

The 400 f2.8 is almost glued to my camera.  ;D

I actually felt sorry for the White Rumped Sandpiper, all here alone. I hope he made it home to Alaska safe and sound.

Very nice shots! I like the way the background cooperates with the subjects in most of these captures.

Wonderful colours Lance, you've framed these very well and the compositions are complimentary
to the subjects.
Great job.

As to the lens, well it is a joy to use as I'm sure you know by now and very versatile!
