Leica Leitz APO-Telyt-R 180/3.4 on D810
« on: May 17, 2019, 16:46:30 »
Hello, I'm using Zeiss lenses on my D810 from a long time. I decided to buy a Leica Leitz APO-Telyt-R 180/3.4 converted to AI and I want to use it on my D810. I never had any problems of focus with Zeiss lenses: could I have them with this model of Leitz lens? I prefer to be sure. Thank you!!
This topic is not OT forum this forum, which is about Nikon equipment because D810 is a Nikon body!  ;D ;D......., also if I use a lot of Zeiss, a Leica and some Nikon lenses!!  ;)
Nikon D810 - Zeiss 21/2.8, Zeiss 25/2, Zeiss 28/2, Nikon 28mm f/2 AI, Zeiss 35/1.4, Zeiss 50/1.4, Zeiss M-P 50/2, Zeiss Milvus 50/1.4, Zeiss 85/1.4,  Zeiss M-P 100/2, Nikon 105/2.5 AI, Nikon AF-D 105/2 DC, Zeiss 135/2, Nikon AF-D 135/2 DC, Nikon AF 200/4 Micro Nikkor.

as this lens was developed for marine observation, you might get problems to focus in very dry environments

I always meant the search of the correct focus: with the Zeiss APO Sonnar 135/2, which is a similar tele (for millimeters of focal), I haven't problem, I can focus easily also at f/2.8.....

Awesome lens on a Nikon body, tack sharp and renders with very bright colours.

Yellow really popped where Nikkor lenses from the same era did less so imho, probably due to the greenish coatings used by Nikon.

Here it is compared to some Nikkors I had back then:

Is it easy to focus, such as Zeiss lenses?

Interesting, I was looking for that lens for quite some time but seemed to be the best deals were in Germany, US and sometimes Japan. Unfortunately not in the UK.  I was looking to use on my Sony bodies.   I have not seen negatives of using longer Leica lenses on Nikon but there are many with more expertise than I have.  Supposed to be a superb lens.   I plan on using many Leica M mount lenses on the Z6 but only up to 90mm.

I finally bought a very good 200 f4 Ai which I use on the Df, D500 and Sony a7rii.  Suits me for my use and abilities.  Please post some images with your new combo.
Cheers,
Tom

The founders of this web site often stress that the NG site is brand agnostic.

Many of us do have some non-Nikon gear - in fact some of our contributors are totally non-Nikon.   For example, I have Nikon and Olympus M43 gear and a few non-Nikon lenses and acessories in F-Mount.  Many here explore the use of older and special purpose non-Nikon lenses and how well they function in the digital world.

Good luck with your Leitz 180mm f/3.4 - a nice lens from all accounts.

Thank you! I haven't bought yet the Leica, however! I have seen also a Nikon AF 300/2.8 and I'm not sure what I have to buy, but Leica is the favourite.
