There isn't only Scotland...
« on: May 12, 2019, 15:29:55 »
Unfortunately the timing of the Scotland NG get together was not right for me, so I could not take part.
This is very sad for me, because I loved the last one and again it seems that the weather is vert favourable. Plus, I really love the Highlands.
It was a nice and unexpected surprise that yesterday my wife offered me a free day off.
So I went to do what I love: hiking and taking photos, and in the process rediscovered that beautiful, rugged places are not only in Scotland. Small pockets of interesting landscapes exist closer to home.
While the Lake District has some fine hills, and has an overall picturesque, quaint look, Snowdonia instead offers some of that starkness of Scotland (sadly without the population low density).
I find the cliffs in the small range of the Glyderau quite remarkable - even better on the rare occasions in winter when they get snow.

1. Stepping stones near Ogwen Cottage
2. Looking from Tryfan toward Y Garn
3. Looking down Y Gribin toward Ogwen Cttage
4,5. Tryfan view from Y Gribin
6. Tryfan in the clouds - this does not look like a 917m high summit (pity for the hordes of hikers on the summit...)
7. Rock formation on Glyder Fach
8. Looking down from Glyder Fach
9, 10. West view from Tryfan summit

A few more taken with TIM (as it is now officially known, TIM = "The Infernal Machine"' courtesy of David Paterson)

1. Y Gribin
2. Nant Ffrancon and the lakes around Ogwen Cottage from above Y Gribin
3. Tryfan and Bristly Ridge from above Glyder Fach
4. Bristly Ridge from above Tryfan (dark in the background, Snowdon)
5. The summit of Tryfan from the air

I can only repeat Thomas's "Stunning".

This is an outstanding set and you have perfectly encaptured the essence of mountains with swirls of misty atmosphere and shade punctuated by shafts of bright sunlight accentuating the textures of the landscape.

Looks like a great place for hikers, geologists, and people who like fresh air and constantly changing light.  The XT-2 is The Infernal Machine?

Thomas and Ann, thank you for the kind comment. It was a fine day and I am pleased with the images I got. It was very cold though! And the clouds mostly cleared by the time I had returned to the car, ready to leave...

I know, three years ago was exceptionally good fun. I hope you lot will have it as good this time around.
I will be following the thread, let us see some fine images of the Highlands!

The place is indeed all that you say.
TIM is not my trusty X-T2.
No... as the second series suggests, TIM can fly.
It is a Mavic 2 PRO and I love it  :)
