Guerrilla gardening at its best.
Over time, it should be possible to spread your re-wilding tentacles out into the whole neighbourhood!  ;)

Fairy Circle

On my evening walk around my yard, this circle of mushrooms appeared. Wow! Of course I am excited to have such a magical visitation spring to the surface in my own small realm, but I am also curious, does anyone know what kind of mushroom these are? Thanks in advance for any information.

Any idea?    Many here are much more knowledgeable about nature than I am.   Obviously something has done a good job of building this.  Never seen one although we have had many types of birds , Squirrels , Bees etc build in the garden.  Did not see any life at all.  In a Neem tree about 8' above the ground.   Started shooting Z6.  This is 300 2.8 G vr handheld.  Going out tomorrow with 500 vr but do not expect much.
Cheers,

Clitocybe infundibuliformis (literally funnel-shaped Clitocybe). Also known as Clitocybe gibba, and Infundibulicybe gibba.

Edible, very good if you boil it 5-8 minutes in hot water + 10% vinegar + 2 tbsp salt, dry out on a towel, and pack out in a jar with some grains of black pepper, laurel leaves, and top the jar to the brim with superior quality olive oil.

You will need 10 times as many mushrooms to fill up a small 250 g jar, though.

I am not posting a photo of these mushrooms in a jar, because the photo has not been taken in May 2019. We usually find them in the Alps in July-August, and abt the same period in Norway. Jars will never survive our appetite 'til next May...

Not to be confused with Clitocybe dealbata, which is more whitish and is toxic.

Massimo,

Thank you for your identification of Clitocybe infundbuliformis and thorough instructions on what to do when preparing them for eating. I very much appreciate your input.

I will say I don't think I shall harvest them but let them remain in the circle. I like the aesthetic of them being in situ. But, I will keep your note for future use as I imagine I'll see them again.

Best regards,

Tom

Next year, the circle will increase in diameter, so in a few years you might be able to harvest a sufficient amount for eating...
Anyhow, it's a very common mushroom, so quite abundant in the proper season. Used also to mix with other mushrooms, olive oil, herbs, a few onions and tomatoes for a pasta, especially tagliatelle.
