I have one of these. Unfortunately it got a bit warm and oil migrated to the aperture. I prefer my the 35 f/1.4 for build quality and character.

Carl, I think you got a good one.  Definitely a modern lens design....the lack of flare from the window is notable.

No doubt the 35/1.4 has better build quality and character, but at a higher cost. Living in the desert I'm pretty anal about my gear and the negatives that excess heat brings.

I think so too, Keith, and I'm pretty happy with it, especially considering the cost.

I had it for a while for experimental use on FX, then exchanged it for the 1.8/35 FX plus I use the Ai-S 1.4/35mm for character

Nice color.  What is the little guy standing on, the DOF melts away before I can determine what it might be?   :)

Carl, the point is i am using a dx lens on a fx body (d700) at full aperture, Bernie is on a brown wooden top of a piece of furniture.

Thank you, Fons. I got the part about the lens being mounted on FX and the resulting DOF which was nice. What piqued my curiosity was the way piece of furniture curved up behind our little hero, into seemingly nothing. Good job.  :)

I've used a couple of different sample of DX35/1.8G, but none has shown any noticeable sample variation.  All in all, I had good experiences, except for the uneven aperture opening shape when stopped down by 1-2 stops.

Carl, if you are not particular about the last point, you should enjoy the lens.

Fons, that is an interesting example.  The vignetting should be stronger when focused at distances.

I had not noticed that @5.6, and thus far I've not stopped the lens down further. On the other side of that, I have age related macular degeneration, which is becoming more severe, so I could miss things that are obvious to others that don't have this condition.
