A newby from South Africa
« on: July 21, 2015, 06:52:42 »
Good morning everyone.

I am a hobbyist living in Johannesburg, South Africa.

My primary interest is wildlife and bird photography, but I also enjoy trying landscape photography (especially at night), star-trails and timelapseas well as aircraft and radio control aircraft.

My father was a professional photographer photographing school kids when I grew up, but he retired about the time digital became viable. I rue all the learning opportunities I squandered as a youth, as I really only became interested in photography about three years ago.

Since 2012 I have been using a D7000 (before that a borrowed D100 for a short period), and am a prime lens junky. I have about 7 ranging from 24mm f2.8 AI-S to 500mm f4 AF-S VR.

I look forward to tapping your knowledge, and perhaps contributing some of my own one day.

okay you made it :)

Welcome Peter - we post differently here to what you may be used to on ODP. It's about the image and not the perfection thereof. And of course some like to take out of focus photos - but at least they are willing to teach me to do that too.

You can contribute virtually anything you want. To echo Elsa, absolutely no need for perfection. Playfulness will go a long way.

Welcome Peter!
Elsa already mentioned that there are those that cannot take in focus photos (me) so don't be shy and let us see some images :)

Peter - high class company indeed.
What is specially good is that people are interested in photography and not egos.
They are interested in equipment  - not because of Gear acquisition syndrome (GAS) but because of what the equipment can do.
I enjoy the technical jargon - (enjoy - not understand)
I learn a lot
It is nice to be in a place where almost everyone else knows more than you do - that's how one grows.
Except I can take in focus photos of course.
