Zeiss enters point and shoot market with ZX1
« on: September 28, 2018, 03:54:37 »
Zeiss has announced a fixed lens (35mm f/2) full frame (37Mp) camera with some interesting functionality, such as Lightroom built in and 512G storage. Due for release in 2019. https://zx1.zeiss.com/ https://petapixel.com/2018/09/27/zeiss-unveils-the-zx1-its-first-ever-full-frame-camera/

If the provided video shows a real sample of the camera, it has only a 1/1000 sec. top shutter speed.   :o
Not having removable memory card is a first, I think.
Perhaps an item for the carriage trade, to be available in the shops of fine hotels worldwide?
Also, it looks slippery, like the Sony A7 series.
I hope it's reliable.  I wonder who makes the body?

35/2.0 distagon and the full-frame?  A redesigned RX1 II?!

I think it is too bulky for the intended purpose.

Looks very promising, interesting & sleek

It has a 4.3" screen which would be necessary to edit in the camera.

I like the idea, the absence of a memory card is the only real negative as I can see.

I do not know, whether this good or bad (from the ad):

"Share your images while they’re still fresh."

It seems, the pictures from the little Zeiss have a limited shelf life ;)

Unless I was hired to transmit live news photos, the very last thing in the whole wide world that I would ever want to do is share images(photographs) immediately after shooting.

Imagine a futuristic camera able to delete any picture before it is actually taken -- now, that would be really something :D

I think its direct rivals are the smartphones.  The image quality of their cameras are amazing, really.

Also, if I would want or need to transmit the image immediately after I shoot it, I might go for the streaming video.

Someone will try to market this, at some point in the not too distant future.  Call it 'Smart Pre Editing'.

I was able to get that effect many long years ago, if I forgot to take the lens cap off.
