Waiting for the loons - a bit of color in the backyard
« on: June 10, 2018, 03:56:41 »
In northern Michigan, this is usually the time when the loon chicks are hatching.  But because of a late ice melt on the lakes, they seem to be running behind in most areas.  So, I turned to a bit closer venue to capture this image.

D810, shot with monopod leaning out over the edge of my pond, Sigma 180 macro, f/14, ISO 1000 1/30 second, polarizer.

It had rained most of the morning, and a captured this just after it stopped .

Very slight crop for comp and leveling.

Minimal post processing.

Cheers

Nice colours - no obvious penalty from using ISO 1000 to compensate for the small aperture and polarizer.  Interesting to see how much depth-of-field you can obtain from the 180 mm lens.  Looking forward to loon photos in due course.

Cheers,  John

Thanks John:

Always nice to have  a pond in your backyard!  The loon pics should be arriving soon!
