I guess they tested for Chikungunya and Dengue fever (had the latest when a kid), those can be found in southern Europe (Portugal)... As the symptoms can be the same as Malaria, with great variety depending on each individual (sometimes no rash)!

Chikungunya fits much better than Dengue, because joint pains are the lead symptom and Chikungunya means: "a man that walks crooked" ... exactly my feel towards life currently

Akira & Frank: this originated as a visible-light image. The subject is the small free-floating liverwort Ricciocarpos natans and the image scale around 1:1.
