This shot suggests a mixture of HAL's eye and HAL's view of what 'he' saw.  Do you suspect the architects were thinking of 2001?

The image is the ceiling of a foyer (one of many entrances) of a villa that used to house both the head office and the residence of the president of a cotton mill. It was built in 1934. The villa is nowadays divided into about two dozen smaller offices ranging from barber shops to software companies to a ballet school. The cotton mill burned in 1981 in an industrial fire that still is the largest ever in Finland. The villa survived intact but the factory was decomissioned.

I shot the ceiling with a circular fisheye.

Very nice idea, Peter!

I think some folk here in NG said that Hal's eye in "2001" was actually one of Nikon fisheye lenses lit in red from its rear...
