Thom Hogan Ends Nikon Support or is it April Fools?
« on: April 02, 2018, 01:29:15 »
It's either a joke or Thom Hogan is ending his relations with Nikon and converting to Sony. I hope it is a joke, but check it out and tell me. I don't see April Fools anywhere.

I don't know if it's a joke either.  Amusing to me.

2017 article summary:
Quoting:

April 1
Nikon Un-announces More Cameras. Nikon today un-announced a number of camera products, ranging from the lowest Coolpix to apparently not-yet-announced products (e.g. things like a possible D5x). Article on dslrbodies.com  Please note the date on this article.
end of quote

I could not find any other foolish references.  Denny O

The italic mention of April 2nd is a clue that it is meant to be funny, but Thom is not all that funny in my opinion. He takes himself quite seriously.

My guess is that it is a joke, but as you say Hogan is not a joker, but this could be his ante in. LOL.

You have to wait for enough suckers to take the bait ... before you say, "April Fools!" ;)

It must be a joke because Sony is not that great, IMO, and Thom is picky.

Yeah, it's his attempt at levity, no doubt.

And I agree, Sony (while highly-capable in some areas) is too full of holes for a rounded photographer to completely jump into.

I don't even see the article, it doesn't appear on his website.  :-\

There have been April Fools articles about the 'Return of Kodachrome' and a 'new Fujifilm camera that will be full frame 24x36' elsewhere on the photo/web today

Thom still has Nikon gear in his bag.  http://www.dslrbodies.com/technique/essays/in-thoms-bag.html

When I saw the Sony article, I thought "Nice one, Thom" and browsed on.

24x36 feet sounds about right to me. Wet plate though, right? With a swimming pool of developer.  Digital equivalent would be a terapixel (hassy is working on that sensor right now)

He often does an April Fools thing like this. He did have a quip amount making room to store extra batteries...I assume Sony cameras burn through them.
