Egrets at the Venice Rookery

Hi all.

This is my first post here of a couple of photos.

These were shot at the Venice Rookery in Venice, FL. Both were shot with my D500 and 400 f/2.8 at ISO 100 f/5.6 with the tc 1.4 so the effective focal length is 840mm. Both were shot on my series 5 Gitzo tripod with the Wimberley gimbal.  The in-flight one was at 1/2500 sec and is uncropped. The chicks was at 1/1250 sec.

#2 works well for me, although the stump is a bit overpowering.  The crop is too tight on #1 for my personal taste.

How is the rookery now days?  I shot there multiple times before all the trees on the backside were cut down, and only a couple of times since, because the loss of the neutral background really limited your options.

Hi Randy.

Thanks for the comments and advice. #1 is uncropped, he was just too close.  I love shooting at the Rookery even though, as you say, backgrounds have to be carefully considered. It is a three hour drive for me but I usually go a couple of times a year. I live in Fort Pierce.
