A small-scale,unofficial meet-up
« on: February 19, 2018, 12:11:35 »
Simone Tomasi (Simato) and I met up at the weekend for a couple of days. The weather was not kind, and we wandered far and wide around the southern Highlands, looking for a little light.

1. Schiehallion at dusk
2. and 3. Sunset trees below Schiehallion
4. Rainbow, Strath Tay
5. In Strath Fillan
6. Glen Coe
7. The River Etive
8. Rannoch Moor
9. The Blackmount
10) Pine-tree beside Loch Tulla

David:

Nice wandering!  Really like #2 with the lighted sky, and trees, but just enough exposure in the foreground to show the green .

Hopefully an adult beverage or two was consumed on the journey!

Thanks for sharing

Cheers

David is immensely skilled in producing a captivating image even in the foulest conditions.
I can assure you they were truly awful and the photographic options extremely limited.
Many shots are similar to David's (in all cases just a little worse than his...) due to the lack of options.

Great pictures ! Often "foul weather" makes for better shots when one's is not freezing to death  :o

Yet again I carefully scroll through these majestical Scotich landscapes that you constantly present to us with a smile on my face!

It seems that regardless of the weather you get beautiful images :)

You are very kind, Bent - it doesn't always work out that way. At the weekend the weather was bad, but still I had some good luck

Simone reported that the weather was not good, which instead seems to have offered a nice opportunities for your shooting session.

I love the second and the last images in the first set.  The pine tree (?) of the last one looks like the ones typically seen in Japan.

It's possible that shooting in poor weather concentrates the mind, and so we try harder. Speaking for myself only, I am conscious of the opposite effect, so that sometimes when in a beautiful situation with multiple possibilities and beautiful light I don't know where to start or what to concentrate on. This can easiiy result in images which are ok but don't reach the potential which the scene offered.

The tree reminded me strongly of Japan which was partly why I shot it. Pinus sylvestris does not always have this complex arrangement of branches, which seemed to resemble the Japanese black pine.

Thank you for the details of the pine tree.

The old saying "all's well that ends well" would apply to the photography, too.

Great series. The photo's don't really show the bad weather. You captured the right light indeed.

I like that pine too.  Thanks for explaining.

My first batch...
David will better than me to caption them, I have no idea of the exact names o the places I am showing.

EDIT: locations

1. Strath Fillan
2. Pine forest from Loch Tulla viewpoint
3. Hills around Rannoch Moor
4. Aonach Dubh, Glen Coe
5, 6. Hills across Loch Tulla (I believe David is incorrect!)
