Sony A7r III with 169,6 MP Pixel Shift Multi Shooting

Having used the pixel-shift in the Pentax K1, which worked pretty well for still photography, I would tentatively trust (an oxymoron) Sony to do this better. And since I only shoot still photos, this could give me huge images with (I hope) great resolution.

Although, the process of the pixel-shift technology is done in post through an app provided by Sony. That's fine with me. Perhaps with more room they will do a better job. Anyway, color me hopeful.

It's good to see that R&D haven't run out of ideas to keep us interested.
To my taste Sony's wheel is turning a bit too fast and I'd prefer less frequent but bigger steps.

The Sony A7R III interests me in a way the A7R2 did not. In fact, I sold my A7R2 last night. I don’t care about the higher ISOs or frames per second that can be shot. And I am fine with the 42 Mpx size. Having now worked with the Nikon D850 (which I love), I can see that even the somewhat increased size (47 Mpx) begins to further tax my computers (and Photoshop), which itself is very fast. I don’t need greater pixels than around 50 Mpx. What I do need (if it works well) is the Pixel-Shift feature that will give me better resolution for that 42 Mpx frame. That I need.

I already have the Voigtlander 65mm Macro for the Sony A7R3, and many non-native lenses that I will see how they adapt. What I might want to pick up are one or two native Sony lenses that are as close to APO as possible. Those of you who use the A7R2 a lot, what are the pristine lenses for that camera that will work well on the A7R3? Thanks in advance.

I don't have the A7R2, rather the A7II. The Sony 90mm Macro is remarkably free from CA and is very APO like. On the A7II, it has a rendition very similar to the subtle wholeness seen in the 125mm APO-Lanthar and goes 1:1. Downside is that manual focus is fly by wire but damped and not too bad. I can do some rough comparison shots if you like.

If you have the chance the Leica 50mm APO-Summicron M is something else again - I don't have one but borrowed a friend's. Serious lens but sadly very serious price.

Since I have the Voigtlander 65mm Macro lens for the Sony, that is a very nice lens. How does one mount the Leica 50mm apo-summicron-m on the Sony A7R2?

They don't actually have the app yet.  According to Thom Hogan the images have to be at least half a second apart, so nothing moving even slowly.

I get it. I used it in the Pentax K3 and K1 and it is for still photography, which is what I do. Plus, unlike the Pentax, which combines the four, we ill have the four as separate images to do with what we like. They could screw it up, but I'm sure they looked at the Pentax and were careful. We shall see.

Michael, I use several Leica M to Sony FE adapters.  The Voigtlander Close Focus, Techart pro (for AF), Novoflex M-FE and a couple of others on the a7ii and a7rii.  The Zeiss Batis 135 f2.8 is a nice lens and APO.  I am not a serious photographer but enjoy using adapted lenses more than Native.   The Loxia Planar 50 f2 is good but also use the ZM Sonnar C 50 1.5 and V/M Nokton 50 1.5 (all three different ;) ).   I also use the LMT Voigt APO Lanthar 90 f3.5.
As Les said,  the App is not even out and there is a question on Apps use on the a9 and a7riii so you may want to wait.   JJ will probably offer more ideas.
