Stuck up mirror. D800
« on: October 22, 2017, 08:23:06 »
Was shooting today and the viewfinder went black with an err message. Found that the mirror is stuck up at all times whether the camera is on/off, battery in/out. When a picture is taken it will be recorded with a black band 1/3 across the top, the mirror does go down at the end of an exposure but immediately snaps back up and stays there. Same for DoF preview.

Liveview works and records pictures as normal, no black band, shutter speed changes are responsive.

It was not dropped and has 97k pictures on it. All signs point to a shutter/mirror problem.
I'm curious if this is similar to others experience of failed shutters and what might be the approximate cost of replacement?

Looks like your camera needs a shutter replacement... 97K shots seems a little low though :-(
