Why do people get angry?
« on: October 03, 2017, 12:47:35 »
Ever since digital photo came to me back in 2002,  with Canon G3, I always did some finetuning i Photoshop 5.5. The photo attached is from summer 2002 giving you an glimpse of what we struggled with in stoneages of dig photo.

I have always tried to be nice and suggested others some improvements.

That have never worked. In fact every friend and everyone has gotten blindlly angry. In fact pissed.

Why do people react that way. Why havent I for the past 17 years never ever had any sucess with my suggestions for better photos?

I have commented on USM, which would have given not so wooly look. I have commented on framing/cropping, people tend to have 90% sky and 10% earth on photos of their beloved ones taken a mile away, and I have tried to give tips about color correction. Alway the same, piss off, this is MY photos, dont touch it, same answer for 17 years :-(

Don't waste your time trying to educate the Earth's population ... Human nature is weird. Leave it at that.

They tells up we share 99.7% of our DNA with Neanderthals.

Hope this helps,

Dave

The Neanderthals were probably smart enough to understand there is no point in sharing poor earth's surface with the sapiens. Unfortunately, they did not know photography was coming, so they gave themselves up.

So-- why do people attend courses in Photography all time knowing that their own photos is the best on this Earth?

How in Merlins beard can that teacher be able to shed some learning, when -- say 30 -- all them 30 participants on the course know for sure they have the ONLY and best way to take
nice photos...thats beyond me ....

This photo is from July 27nd. 2002.
Its my hometown.
exif info says Canon Ixus. The first dig camera I ever owned. That lovely Canon G3 I  bought some months later.
Have really forgotten what kind of ixus any ideas??
And at home in the camera bag was a fully loaded Nikon F3HP with a 55 micro Nikkor and kodachrome 64. I still
cant get it why I sold this to fund the G3 :-(

When I started with digital photography I learned a lot by submitting my images to critique

It takes time to learn to read the comments and not take it personally

People do not like their work to be criticised.

If someone makes you a meal and you tell them they should have done it differently, they will be unhappy with you.

And yet people go to cookery school.

A forum like this is an exception, as there is an expectation (and, usually, a wish) for comments and advice.

If the people you are making suggestions to are not asking for critique, they may be perceiving you as a "know it all" and not open to the suggestions.   Critique is best given when asked for and not blindly thrust upon people.

Also, my suggestion for a photo is going to be toward my taste in the processing.  That may not be how that person envisioned the image.  They are correct in stating that it is their image and their vision.  If that is the way they want it, then that is their choice.

+1 "Critique is best given when asked for..."

I don't give a lot of advice as I don't feel I'm a good enough photographer to be doing that.

This discussion reminds me of youthful friends who used to write poetry.  When someone asks your honest opinion, run!
