Hair by Alistair

It may seem Mongo photographs Pelicans a lot. However, in dozens of years, he has only done so a handful of times. It is just that, more recently, he has found a cooperative and interesting flock of them. Now , back to the topic of this presentation -

Walk into a hairdresser’s place and look at the photos on the walls showing all the trendy hairstyles. That is how it felt when Mongo finished shooting these guys with their unique and compelling hairdos. Every thing from “dashing D’Artagnan” to the “mighty mullet” to the “boy band” look and even a very smart looking short perm. Yet, another which shows the fine feathers as a tightly arranged collection of tiny Japanese hand fans. This hair studio had it all !

Thanks to all our wonderful models - Julian , Simon, Brandon. Ricardo and the others

D800E , 200-500mm handheld. Must say, Mongo was pleased with its almost macro performance.

These guys were so friendly that Mongo even used a 90mm macro. However, the 200-500mm shots were the ones selected for this posting.

Amazing cooperation of the hairdresser (who?!), the models and, last but not least, Mongo!

The subtle color (pink on the beaks, yellow surrounding the eyes and various background colors) make them look elegant.

Fascinating details for one who doesn't see pelicans often... :-)

A very nice set of pictures. Especially the first one; very nice light and colors, not to mention the amount of details in the feathers.

thank you all for your kind comments and for having a laugh with Mongo.

to try and answer some of the questions:- the distance was as little as 3 metres  -  at times less but would have minimum focus issue and had to pull back from time to time. A lot of the images were taken at the 200mm end of this lens and it is sharper at that end.

Akira, thanks for the CC

David, thanks for the candy - always appreciated.
