I would highly recommend to shoot the actual lens and camera in question to decide the amount of diffraction in the image.

IMHO the calculations are merely estimates of an possible outcome.

There are many factors that can play a role for the final outcome that can 'cloud' the impact of diffusion such as light direction and intensity but also just plainly ISO of the camera as you change aperture,,,

EXACTLY, ERIK! 20160609-060-2-2 by 20160609-20160609-060-2 by longzoom, on Flickros/longzoom/]longzoom[/url], on Flickr.      I took this image about a year ago, on an  impulse, in the park. I do not know those people, but something attracted my attention. D810/80-400 combo, at 400mm, about 50 meters far. The crop of 100%, with a little correction of that given light. Is there any diffraction? Of course, plus some other imperfections. So shoot first, calculate and improve, if possible, after, but save that beautiful unrepeatable  moment!   THX!  LZ
