Bixby Creek Bridge by Ron Scubadiver, on Flickr

One of the most photographed bridges in California, about 15 miles north of the Big Sur road closure.

The beauty of the bridge comes from the fact that it is the visualization of the law of physics.  Very sophisticated!

The more I look at photos of the bridge the more I think my father had a blowout on that bridge with our 1957 Mercury Monterey. I've driven across it a number of times but never had a blowout.

Good angle...not the usual view.  Caltrans(the agency that operates the roads) needs a larger maintenance budget.

I'll second Keith,  it's a view that I don't recall seeing photographed before. Nicely done.

Ron, I think you'll find that your photo is of Rocky Creek Bridge, about 1km north of Bixby Creek Bridge. Both were built in 1932 and are very similar in style. In your tight shot it is difficult to notice that the iconic curvature of Bixby Bridge is missing.

Sharp eye: no curve, not Bixby.

Dave

In truth I didn't remember there were two similar bridges. I remember the curve of the Bixby. I didn't remember the name of either bridge. The style is unforgettable.

Probably the last time I was across those two bridges was 1982.

I will have to update the caption on flickr.  It's par for the course that I did not know where I was.  I have a feeling Bixby Creek is more than 1km south of this location.
