10- panorama.

It has been a long day. I´m afraid I should confess that I have many more "in focus" images today because I have made a genius discover: there is a dot in the viewfinder that tells you when you hit focus with whatever point you decide  :-[ ::) about time...

Paco :) congrats on discovering the focus confirmation dot! Some models have arrows on the sides that indicate which way to turn the focus ring , that is if you have a nikon lens, sigma's turn the other way around

the confirmation dot works well with the 105 f2.5 , but the tolerance with other lenses - 55 f1.2 - is to wide and the results are not reliable

I really like the b&w bench image

One thing I really like is how compact the lens is, at least when compared with the modern AFS lenses

Paco :) congrats on discovering the focus confirmation dot!
Oh, don´t mention it -seriously, don´t, is embarrassing  ;D ;D ;D-

It does work very well with this lens. I also tried a 20mm 2.8 with good results. As of today, I´m waiting for a k3 screen for the d700. I think it will be a lot of help. Shooting manual lenses is yet another discovery. It changes the experience a lot.
I´m happy you like the bench.

Walking around with the d700 without the grip and heavy battery and this lens was easy and I like the results. I´m pretty sure I´ll keep doing it

Nice series, Paco. I like the wheels especially.   The combination of a good viewfinder and the green dot is usually a guarantee for hitting the focus.

If my eyes are tired (or it is pretty dark), I usually need the extra info of the 'green' dot to be sure the focus is 'on'.   ;)

For reasons not readily explained, I have always found the 105 relatively easy to manually focus even on the terrible D3200 screen, compared to others.  The 85/2.8micro and old 85/1.8 are both difficult, and the 50/2 nearly impossible, the 135/2.8Q poor, but the 200/4Q pretty good.  The 28/3.5 is not too bad, the 35/2.8 poor, but the 35/2.8PC very good.   Maybe it has to do with the way the lens renders edges or something, or maybe it's all psychological.  It's hard to tell whether the best image makers focus the best, or the best focusing ones make the best images.   Anyway, the 105/2.5 is grand, and it's clear from the pictures above that the example here is working nicely.

Paco, your photography style came through your new toy already much successfully.  I'm truly enjoying the series. Congrats!

Thank you John, Erik, Matthew and Akira.

Until the discovery of the dot (  ::) it is a nice feature, you should all try it  :P :-[ :o ) I had a strong tendency for back-focus. Lack of experience , no doubt. I hope the use of the k3 screen will help with the successful rate Any point or advice on proper technique for manual is much appreciated.
  I'll keep on shooting
