It is bound to arrive at some point. My guess is the arrival will be in the quite near future. Nikon has updated these 300/2.8 many times over the years and the current move towards 'E' will hasten the launch of such a lens.

The AFS 200/2 and 200-400/4 will almost certainly be updated to "E" also. But anyone who knows won't say when, and anyone who says is guessing, so we will just have to wait :)

Guessing it will come out this year, or early next year. Pretty sure it's going to be an FL version too.
400/2.8 FL is a beast, IQ wise and the pricetag  :'(

I guess the E-version is for very soon.  The rationale behind: one of the main official Swiss retailers is offering a €500 discount (net price CHF 4'900 (€4'500). A rapid review of main retailers in France and the USA all show that they are out of stock or on back order..

Ah ha - the ongoing Canonisation of the Nikkor lens line up?   :o

Soon Nikon's cameras will not even have lens stop down mechanisms in them!

The AFS 200/2 and 200-400/4 will almost certainly be updated to "E" also. But anyone who knows won't say when, and anyone who says is guessing, so we will just have to wait :)

I hope for you. I bought one on October 2014; historical cost: CHF5'355,- (€4'890,-)

Well, that's not very likely since Nikon is also introducing new G lenses; not all recently introduced lenses are E.

I am a tad more positive concerning Nikon these days. After learning that Mitsubishi are the owners I feel Nikon is prestigious enough a brand to keep it even if it produces losses. I do not see a strategy that could bring back Nikon into profitable regions though. So cuts into non profitable product lines are to be expected to minimize loss that seems unavoidable

I contacted Nikon.  I could finally obtain the following answer : "Même si cet objectif doit encore être disponible chez certains revendeurs, il semble effectivement que sa production soit en train de s'arrêter." i.e. "Although this lens should still be available with some vendors, it appears that the production is in the process of being stopped".

PLEASE, stay focused on this lens and avoid generic chitchat about the "survival" or "profitability" of Nikon. Don't take it wrong. Thanks 😊

Nikon Corporation is a member of the Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Keiretsu.

See links:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mitsubishi

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries direct shareholding in Nikon Corp. under such a working arrangement can in fact be quite small.

I put more faith in the fact that the Japanese Government is unlikely to let an iconic Japanese company go to the wall - they reportedly have already encouraged Nikon and Fuji to enter into talks.

I would wait for absolutely reliable source to test the new "PF" lens, any of them, if lower mass and size of the new one isn't the imperative factor to get it immediately. My own experience with new "FL" 300/4 and older AFS version clearly shows - do not rush! And yes - "E" lenses deliver a bit less vibrations, compare to "G" version, a hair less, but you are able to see this hair difference when your unit is on the tripod, not hand-held, of course. THX!  LZ

Hi longzoom, can you elaborate a bit more on your cautiousness for FL lenses? I lost mine. And I have to buy a replacement.
