How to use Nikon manual lenses on Nikon 1 cameras?
« on: May 10, 2017, 19:26:08 »
I have an AW1 and several MF Nikkors.
Most of them are chipped but this immaterial since I don't have an FT-1, only a cheap Chinese adapter without electronic contacts.
I have mounted the lenses and I can see the image on the screen, focus and toggle the 100% view, but there is always that stupid message saying that I cannot take pictures without a lens.
Is there a way of taking pictures "without a lens"?
There is none I could find in the menus and in the manual, but I hope it is just a case of not having looked well enough.
Any tips?

Put the camera to "M" exposure mode will certainly help ...

You do need the FT-1 if you wish your [chipped] lenses to meter with the 1 series camera. Plus, you then get the benefit of  enabling the focusing magnifier. Or maybe the AW-1 supports this feature from the get-go? The 1V1 does not, I'm sure of that. The AW1 might be less crippled in some features it is to hope.

I think I spoke too quickly about the focusing magnifier. I am not able to enable it.
For the rest M did help - in the sense that I can take images.
But as you said no metering, one just guesses the exposure and then modifies the shutter speed based on the results. Then hope that exposure remains consistent...

Well anyway, glad you now manage to use the MF Nikkors at all on your AW-1.

Get the FT-1 in due time and enjoy virtually any Nikkor on the AW-1. A 200/2 AFS is superb for video for example.

If I had a FT1 chipping the 200/4 micro would begin to make sense.
I never bothered since I got it after selling my last Nikon DSLR.

On the other hand my 50/1.2 will never be chipped in any case.

Hm, reminds me I must press-gang Erik into fixing my chipped 50/1.2. ...
