The Pelican Presentation
« on: April 06, 2017, 07:29:38 »

Have been taking the odd opportunity shot of these large and often majestic birds for some years. Have never gone out to photograph them per se. Yesterday at Bicentennial Park was no different. However, this time for some unknown reason, the few odd shots of the pelicans came up in a more pleasing way than Mongo expected and probably the best shots he has of this species. The pelicans were very large and seem to be the "grand daddies" of all pelicans Mongo has seen. Not too excited about #5 but included for its pose.

Quite a bit of PP in some of these and less in others. D800E, AFS 600mm f4, tripod.

Truly a joy to view these pics...I am hypnotized by the colors in the beak of this fascinating bird.  Thank-you
Wonder what this does?

Presentation is the word.  These are all exemplary images that show various attractive aspects of pelican.

Mongo,

There has to be a Pelican's beauty saloon nearby , they look so nice !

I also noticed the wonderful pink tones in the beak

Gorgeous captures

Mongo:

I like them all, although the framing is a bit tight for my tastes in some.

It is fun to see this species of pelican, as they seem to combine the white and brown pelicans that I am use to in the States.

This outing is an example why it is good to keep an open mind about our subject!

Cheers

Thanks all for looking in and for your kind comments.

Armando, after your comments a closer look made Mongo laugh when their heads/faces indeed seem to have been worked on by a make-up person  -  LOL

Randy, true - on a lucky day the most modest sparrow could render a good image. Agree, they are tight in this instance but not normally the case. This subject for some reason attracted a tighter crop.

Very nice pelican action
although
they lack the tidiness of Mongo's pelicans :)

on the top you can see a piece of fish that has been thrown to the pelicans
