Largest glacier calving ever filmed
« on: March 24, 2017, 03:33:27 »
Perhaps it might not be appropriate to post it here, but I just couldn't resist.  And I dared to post it here, because its scale is rather in the class of the universe than nature.

The scene is spectacular in the true sense of the word but chilling (no pun intended), too.

I would highly recommend to watch it in the full screen mode.

Impressive graphics, but I miss context

Yes, the sound should be overwhelming.

How do they know when it is going to happen?

How do they know when it is going to happen?

Waiting and have the required patience, perhaps? And ensure a healthy supply of extra power being ready all the time.

They might have warmed up (intentional pun) by watching one of the "slow TV" transmissions so popular in my country. For example: Showing 'A fire blazing in the fire place', 'Taking the train from Oslo to Bergen', or 'Going by coastal liner along the Norwegian coast'  - literally - minute by minute. An entire TV channel was allocated for those broadcasts. You'd turn on the TV  and followed until you fell asleep - when you eventually woke up, the program still was on :D :D

I suspect that have a series of instruments that measure everything from temperature and rumblings and movement etc and therefor have a fairly accurate time when it will go down.

The important part is the new Guinness World record that was set...
Wonder what this does?

Viewing at full screen it's hard to grasp the actual scale of the event even when a comparison map of Manhattan is shown. The word massive seems inadequate when describing the sheer size.
