Ahhhh, I thought that the you stated that 17-55 2.8 AFS was made by Cosina in Japan,,,

Now I see you meant made in Japan

You put the lens on an optical bench and check how it is performing and then completely disassemble the lens and inspect everything, then reassemble put it on an optical bench again and adjust it,,,sort of what LensRentals does,,,

Or just relax and go shoot some images and enjoy

Haha. That sounds like a good procedure to me. As long as the focus is where I want it to be ;-)

Oh, sorry to be unclear!  Yes, SOME Nikkor lenses are still made in Japan.
