What an amazing road trip!
If I go again it will probably be in the winter for some aurora shooting.
If I only had the time, I would go for a road trip, just like you and circle the island of Iceland :)

the old Nissan Patrol showns excellent what was the most important issue during the days, I was regularly there:  the width of your wheels - if you are a man it was more than 31", they had 2 chamber hoses inside to regulate the surface touching snow - I have heared it is now more restricted to go on any unprotected/natural place
There were only few of these and mostly in rural areas.
Seeing what competent drivers did with them was impressive. These seem to be quite capable machines for a purpose.
My understanding is that you are not supposed to leave the (gravel) roads and need to stay on the marked trails in the outskirts.

I would go back. It started snowing there, by the way. Winter in the north is missing on my list so far.

Great series, Thomas. You must be very disciplined and well organised to keep up your regular processing and posting whilst on your travels. Fortunately for us back home, the internet in Iceland is excellent and there are plenty of wifi hot-spots.

Your images provide a great "feel" for the ruggedness of rural Iceland. I especially like 15 - 4 (your daily fall) - so typical of the Western Fjords, which is my favourite part of Iceland. Its a pity that the highland roads are are now closed, as they are very interesting and photogenic also, especially the river crossings. I have been to Iceland twice now, and your images make me want to get back again!

Enjoy using the one-way road tunnel out of Ísafjörður!

I am looking forward to your next series.

Mike.

Hi Mike & all: The day by day narrative seems to work well, maybe too well indeed:
let me repeat to clarify: This is not live. I'm posting in retrospect.

That tunnel out from Isarfjördur is great, comparable to some on the Faroe Islands and in Norwegian. Unfortunately I did not bring a photo back.

I hope that you'll continiue to follow 'Iceland 2016' and enjoy how the following days enroll.
