There are very obvious differences in contrast and colour rendition, with the older lens (Russian presumably?) delivering much more soft images with muted colours than the 58 G. Not unexpected. These Russian lenses tended to have multi-bladed apertures giving often quite nice bokeh if other aberrations were kept at bay.

Were weather conditions constant between the two runs? I wonder what influence the sun coming out could induce here.

they were taken this afternoon relatively shortly after each other, we are having warm and sunny probably high uv some clouds and veiling weather,
its an oddball comparison i shot the 58 @ 1.4 hence the d800, largest aperture on the mir is 3,5
sofar i find the bokeh of the mir somewhat dissapointing center sharpness is good but flat field is uneven

There is a reason why these lenses sell at next to nothing,,, they can of course be used for fun :)

Sorry but IMHO it's a dull and lifeless rendering and a harsh back ground...
