I'm sorry, Dave.  Hope the sorrow in you and Mayumi-san will go away as soon as possible.  Then there will only be happy memories about Sally.

Dave, so very sorry to hear of the loss of your dog.  Our four footed friends do enrich our lives and its nice to think that she may still be with you at least in spirit when you venture into the woods.

A warm hug to the former owners, may she rest in peace and enjoy the eternal hunting grounds.
Cheers,

I'm very sad to hear that Sally has lost the battle despite the loving care and attention lavished on her over many months by you and Mayumi. I can imagine that its going to be a real struggle for you to get out and around the headwaters of Loch Tay without Sally's companionship. You and Sally were regulars there. My sympathies to you both.

Thank you, Mike, for your sympathy and for the photos of Sally (especially that *very* flattering one of me!).

Thank you too, JA, Frank, Armando, Hugh, Akira, Jakov, Erik, Thomas, Anthony and Chris, for your kindness. It really helps.

I was broken-hearted when the vet left this morning but I knew we had done the right thing for Sally. Her deterioration in the past week was faster and deeper than I could have imagined, with multiple very upsetting symptoms including, quite obviously, a lot of pain. Now we have the pain but it will slowly fade.

You can hear her thinking: What the heck is he doing?  :o
Not sure if I posted this before.

Sally is not gone - she simply needed to exchange her earthly doggy suit for a celestial one -- to be part of the light. My very best regards and condolences to you, Dave & Mayumi.

Sally, who was a very patient dog that day, waiting for the photographers to finish.

In a former life, I raised dogs thus only too well know the grief and pain when a canine family member leaves to hunt ethereal sticks. Be glad you have all the fond memories, and photos, of Sally.

Thank you so much, Andrea, John and Bjørn - it seems that many of us understand the hurt of losing a favourite dog. It can go very deep.

Andrea - that is a beautiful image, one of the best ever taken of Sally.  It captures perfectly her calm, her patience and her sweet character. Mayumi will be as thrilled as I am; we will probably both need to cry again.
